Help a Child (HaC) is a Christian international NGO specialized in community development with its headquarters in the Netherlands. Founded in 1968, Help a Child wants every child – regardless of their social, political, religious, ethnic or economic background – to have a life in dignity, with love and with a promising future. Based on our 2016-2020 global strategy, Youth & Work, Early Childhood Development and Group Empowerment are priority sectors. Since 2009 HaC has been operating in Kenya as Help a Child Africa (HACA).

Position

The Program Manager will be responsible for providing management of the projects that are situated in the Western and Eastern parts of Kenya. We are seeking a Program Manager with proven expertise in sustainable community development and group empowerment using the self-help-group approach and working with Cluster Level Associations.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage ongoing projects in close cooperation with staff and local partners;
  • Monitor and evaluate implementation of projects to ensure that sustainable impact is achieved and interventions are compliant with the organization, government and (back) donor policies & guidelines;
  • Identify, create and capitalize on funding opportunities for further growth of the country program by developing strong relationships with existing and potential donors and taking a lead role in proposal development;
  • Develop and maintain good relations with the government (national and county), donors and other implementing partners aligned to country strategic priorities;
  • Ensure prudent and accountable use of financial resources at both HACA and partners level;
  • Prepare donor reports, review evaluation reports and other reports while ensuring timeliness and quality standards are adhered to;
  • Build knowledge and technical capacity of staff and implementing partners (through training, mentoring, coaching) to deliver and monitor high quality interventions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in (Community) Development or a related field;
  • 5+ years of Program Management experience in (child focused) community development;
  • Expertise in sustainable development and group empowerment with experience in the self-help-group approach and working with Cluster Level Associations;
  • Demonstrated experience in building personal and professional networks;
  • Proven track record in identifying, creating and capitalizing on funding opportunities;
  • Experience in developing and implementing project phase out, exit and sustainability strategies;
  • Good understanding of program, financial and operational management processes;
  • Experience in working with a Theory of Change as frame work;
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbally and written;
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, interpersonal and cross cultural sensitivity;
  • Being a Christian adhering to the Christian identity of Help a Child.
