International development & humanitarian assistance

International development & humanitarian assistance

International development work attracts individuals with expertise in a wide variety of areas: from health, education and nutrition to engineering, accounting and business backgrounds.

While humanitarian aid and international development are often talked about together, there are some important differences that are vital to understand if you are considering entering these fields.

International development naturally attracts individuals with an interest in the social sciences, but the sector does provide opportunities for a broad range of skilled professionals.

Employment in international development is not restricted to NGOs and governments, but includes the private sector and social enterprises.

Make no mistake: international development and humanitarian aid are among the most competitive sectors out there for people at an entry level.

There is an enormous variety of job types within the international development sector and there are roles for people with nearly any area of specialization. Meet some of the people working in this sector.
