JOB SUMMARY:

The Program Officer, based in GRI’s headquarters in Emeryville, CA, will support the strategic development and delivery of activities for GRI projects in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Anticipated start April 2019.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with strategic development and program deliverables for GRI programs in Iraq
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to team, including arranging travel and organizing meetings and conferences
  • Monitor program budgets, and expenditures
  • Serve as secondary point of contact (POC) for staff in the field
  • Assist with the production of work-plans, program updates, reports, memos, newsletters, and other project deliverables
  • Recruit and support international consultants and local national staff
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual reports, work-plans, and success stories as required by client and GRI
  • Monitor political events in assigned countries and provides written and oral updates to senior staff as needed
  • Track future funding opportunities and prepare proposals
  • Manage GRI’s social media accounts, newsletters, and other communications channels
  • Potential for travel to field to support delivery of program results, including to remote, difficult, and insecure locations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by President

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in International Development, Gender, Economic Development, Political Science, Law or related subject; graduate degree preferred
  • A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in international development, women’s rights, rule of law, governance, or economic development
  • Strong professional writing skills required
  • Basic knowledge of USAID regulations and contracting processes strongly preferred
  • High level of interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with all levels of staff, U.S. and foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, funders and policy makers
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Exceptional writing skills to effectively create clear and concise proposals and reports
  • Basic managerial skills
  • Capacity to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Working knowledge of basic budget and accounting procedures
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project locations
  • Living or working experience within the Middle East preferred
  • Fluency in English required; Arabic preferred; Kurdish a plus
